Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and National President of Congress Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was not ready for any explanation or discussion on the face-off between Indian and Chinese armies.

He (Rajnath Singh) read his statement and went out. Kharge lamented.

On the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation FCRA license cancellation issue, he said has nothing to do with it.  “Hang us if it is our fault.”

Kharge said, “The Leader of the House and the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha told us that we would be given a chance to explain, but they did not and were not ready to listen to us.  This is not good for the country.”

He further asserted, “We are standing with the soldiers of the country.”

“When they did not give us an explanation, all the leaders of the Opposition parties decided to walk out.  We stand together for the unity and integrity of our country, we are with our soldiers,” he said.

Before Kharge, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said there was no doubt that China is eyeing Tawang.  “We have to be very careful there.  I think what our army did today had the support of the whole country.  I asked the Defense Minister to show the world that India is one and on this, every member of every party is with the army.”

The AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) chief Asaduddin Owaisi accused the Central government of being “silent” and “scared” over the clash between Indian and China troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh.

He said he would be bringing an adjournment motion in the ongoing Parliament session to seek answers from the government. “China isn’t allowing us to patrol, there are clashes but the Modi government is silent. We have a trade imbalance with China in its favour despite the fact that our soldiers are getting injured,” he pointed out.

“We hope the government won’t run away from the issue,” he added.
