The Allahabad High Court on Monday gave interim relief to former SP MLA from Sisamau, Kanpur, Irfan Solanki, in an extortion and land-grabbing case. After hearing Irfan Solanki’s petition, the High Court stayed the trial court proceedings until further orders.

The petition was heard by a single bench of Justice Sameer Jain.

Solanki has filed a petition seeking to quash the entire trial court proceedings in the extortion case dating back to 2022. Solanki, who has been a four-time MLA from Sisamau in Kanpur, lost his Assembly membership following his conviction last year in a 2022 land-grab case.

One Vimal Kumar filed an FIR at the Jajmau police station in December 2022 against the SP leaders and others. A case was registered against Irfan Solanki, builder Haji Wasi, Shahid Lari, and Qamar Alam at the Jajmau police station in Kanpur Nagar.

All have been charged with extortion and fraud. Vimal Kumar has alleged that his land, Khasra No. 963, located in Jajmau, measuring 1,000 square meters, has been encroached upon, and the boundary wall demolished.
