The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj and 12 other locations in connection with an alleged hospital construction scam, making him the latest party leader to come under the agency’s scanner.
Bharadwaj, the sitting MLA from Greater Kailash, has previously held crucial portfolios such as Health, Urban Development, and Water, and also served as Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board. He is among the party’s key spokespersons.
This isn’t the first instance of AAP leaders facing Enforcement Directorate action. Several senior figures of the party, including former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, ex-ministers Satyendar Jain and Amanatullah Khan, as well as former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have previously been raided by the agency.
Sisodia and Kejriwal came under the ED’s radar in the Delhi excise policy case, Jain was targeted over alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board, while Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan faced searches linked to money laundering charges.
AAP leaders reactions
After the Enforcement Directorate raided AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj’s residence on Tuesday morning, the party hit back, calling it a BJP-led conspiracy and claiming that AAP is the “most targeted political outfit” in the country’s history.
Former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that AAP is being targeted as it remains the most outspoken party against the Modi government.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Sanjay Singh asserted that the ED raids and cases against the party are “false and baseless.”
In a sharp counterattack, former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia alleged that Prime Minister Modi’s degree is fake.
On ED raids against AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP National Media in-charge, Anurag Dhanda says, “Why is this fake raid being done by ED on Saurabh Bharadwaj? This is happening because since yesterday, the whole country has been discussing that PM Modi’s degree is fake, and something has to be done to divert attention from that issue”.
BJP, Congress reactions
On ED raids against AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said it is a move by the BJP to threaten AAP.
While Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa slammed AAP and said that “corruption of thousands of crores was done in the name of the construction of 13 hospitals”. He alleged that AAP has gone to Punjab and is looting Punjab with both hands.
