EC removes Bengal DGP, home secys of 6 states ahead of LS polls

In a major reshuffle ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Election Commission on Monday ordered removal of West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) and home secretaries of six states of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Moreover, the Secretary of the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh have also been removed.

The decision to remove the Mamata Banerjee-appointed Bengal DGP was taken due to DGP being removed from any active election management related duty earlier, during 2016 Assembly election in the state and in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
