The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued notification for biennial polls to fill 13 vacant seats of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on Friday.

According to the notification, nominations will start on March 4. Nominations can be withdrawn till March 14 and voting, if required, will take place on March 21.
The counting of votes will take place after 5 pm on the same day.

UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that the Election Commission of India has fixed the schedule for the election of 13 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

He said the tenure of 13 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elected by the members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is ending on May 5, 2024.

The members whose tenure is ending are Dr Mahendra Singh, Mohsin Raza, Ashok Katiyar, Ashok Dhawan, Bukkal Nawab, Yashwant, Vijay Bahadur Pathak, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Dr Sarojini Aggarwal, Nirmala Paswan (all BJP), Ashish Patel, (Apna Dal), Naresh Uttam Patel (SP), and Bhimrao Ambedkar (BSP).
