German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is in India on a two-day official visit, met his Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House, in New Delhi on Wednesday.
In his opening remarks during the delegation-level meeting with the German Foreign Minister, Jaishankar said that India counts on Germany’s support to deepen the country’s relationship with the European Union and expedite the negotiations for a trade deal.

“We count on your support to deepen our relationship with the European Union and expedite the FTA negotiations. India and Germany have a strong history of multilateral cooperation, which, I am confident, will be further advanced through our talks today…,” the Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) said.
The German minister arrived in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning. He visited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) before leaving for Delhi.
Welcoming the German minister to India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that “his engagements in Bengaluru and Delhi will further strengthen the multifaceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership as we mark 25 years of its completion.”
Ahead of his India visit, Wadephul said that India plays a vital role in the Indo-Pacific region.
He said, “India’s voice, that of the world’s most populous country and largest democracy, is also heard beyond the strategically important Indo-Pacific region.”
He noted the potential for expanding India-Germany ties in areas, ranging from security cooperation to innovation, technology, and skilled workforce recruitment.
Stating that India plays a decisive role in shaping the world order, the German minister called on New Delhi to preserve the rules-based international order.
