An on-duty house surgeon at Faridkot’s Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital has been suspended following a shocking incident where hospital staff threw an unidentified patient’s body out on the street. The hospital authorities have initiated a formal internal probe into the matter.
The patient, an unidentified man found injured by the Ferozepur Police, was admitted to the hospital’s surgery ward about a week ago. He died during treatment on Monday night. Instead of sending the body to the mortuary, hospital workers reportedly followed the house surgeon’s orders and left the body near the local Rambagh area outside the premises.

Residents spotted the abandoned body, which still had surgical bandages on it, and immediately informed Ashok Bhatnagar, who heads the Sahara Society social welfare group. Bhatnagar recognized the medical dressing and realized the deceased was a patient from the medical college.
“The staff completely ignored basic protocols. Usually, a dead body must be moved straight to the mortuary while the police are informed. Instead, they just dumped it on the roadside,” Bhatnagar said.
Following the alert, police teams and hospital officials reached the spot and shifted the body back to the hospital mortuary. Local DSP Tarlochan Singh said the body is currently kept for identification, and efforts are on to trace the man’s family.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Neetu confirmed that strict action is being taken against the staff involved.
“We have set up an internal inquiry committee to check how this major oversight happened. The house surgeon has been suspended with immediate effect. We will take final legal and administrative action as soon as the inquiry report comes in,” Dr. Neetu said.
