In a breakthrough for Opposition’s INDIA bloc, the DMK and Congress on Saturday announced seat-sharing agreement in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As per the agreement, Congress has been given nine seats in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry.

The remaining 30 of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu will be contested by DMK and other allies.

“Congress will contest elections on 9 seats in Tamil Nadu and one seat in Puducherry. On the remaining seats, we will support the candidates of DMK and alliance parties. We will win all 40 seats of Tamil Nadu,” Congress MP KC Venugopal told reporters.

The Congress leader also exuded confidence of winning all the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry.

“We are confident that INDIA Alliance will win all 40 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. They (NDA) can make the perception that they are winning but INDIA Alliance will be ruling the country after this election,” the Congress leader said.

In 2019, the Congress had contested nine seats in the state and won eight, while the DMK swept all the 20 seats it has contested.

Earlier today, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) also joined the DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
