Here is a list of things that are considered auspicious to buy on Dhanteras.
Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi, Dhanwantari Triodasi or Dhanvantri Jayanti marks the first day of the five-day Diwali festival. In 2018, Dhanteras falls on November 5.
‘Dhan’ means wealth and ‘teras’ means the thirteenth day of the moon cycle. This festival is celebrated in the month of Karthik, which is on the 13th day of Karthik Krishna Paksh.
On Dhanteras, it is believed auspicious to purchase metals like silver and gold which will bring good luck, wealth and prosperity for the family. People even buy new utensils and decorate their homes with colourful lights and rangoli as they welcome goddess Lakshmi. To signify the arrival of the goddess, people use vermillion powder with rice flour to create small footprints symbolically representing the steps of the deity.
