Dera violence: Lone woman figures among 20 of 36 victims

Veena Rani of Fatehabad was the lone woman in the list of 20 of the 36 people killed in Dera violence in Panchkula and Sirsa on Friday.

The Haryana government on Saturday released a list of 20 of the 36 persons killed in violence at Panchkula and Sirsa towns. The followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim went on rampage after their spiritual guru was held guilty of rape and criminal intimidation by a special CBI court on Friday.

The victims fell to the bullets of the security forces, which stepped in to quell the conflagration.

Among the dead was also a teenager, Lovepreet Singh (16) of Thehri village in Gidderbaha. He was killed in Panchkula where he had gone with his aunt, a Dera follower. He took a bullet in the back, reports said.

As per the list released by the Haryana government, six people were killed in Sirsa — Wazir Singh, Vinod and Kala Singh of Sirsa, Robin of Jind, and Veena Rani and Sahil of Fatehabad.

Among the 14 others killed in Panchkula, at least seven were from Punjab — Hari Singh (Bathinda), Lovepreet Singh alias Bagga (Muktsar), Aman (Fazilka), Jagrup Singh (Barnala), Manish Sharma and Gurpal Singh (Patiala) and Uggar Sain (Sangrur). Those from Haryana killed in Panchkula were: Vineet (Ambala), Nimbo, Sube Singh, Jai Bhagwan and Ramesh (Jind), Vikram (Kaithal) and Manish (Karnal).

As per officials, the complete list will be issued on Monday, as the process of identification of the victims is on.
