The initiative is especially beneficial for people living in rural and underserved areas, thereby supporting the government’s vision of ensuring financial inclusion through digital transformation, the Ministry of Communications said in a statement.

Through these ATMs, customers can conveniently withdraw cash, check account balances, and carry out other basic banking transactions, it added.

With interoperable functionality, India Post ATMs supported transactions for cards of other banks. Similarly, India Post ATM cards could be used at ATMs of other banks, giving customers flexibility and wider reach.

Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) account holders could withdraw cash, check their account balance, and avail themselves of other essential banking services at these ATMs.

The restoration of ATM services would ensure seamless service delivery to the customers, where post offices served as vital financial access points.

Recently, the Department of Posts (DoP) had said that it will double its ATM network in India to 2,000 in the ongoing financial year (FY26).

The expansion is likely to increase financial access, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where India Post has a strong presence.
