Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot directed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Vikas Kumar to constitute an expert committee to inquire into the Gokulpuri Metro Station mishap and submit a report within two weeks’ time.

A 53-year-old man lost his life while four others were injured when a portion of the Gokulpuri Metro Station boundary wall collapsed in northeast Delhi on Thursday.

In a letter to Vikas Kumar, Gahlot directed the DMRC to disburse ex-gratia compensation as per rules within 24 hours.

In the letter, the Delhi transport minister said it had been noted with concern the incident at Gokulpuri Metro Station where a part of platform boundary wall fell on the road killing one person while inuring four others.

“The DMRC will disburse ex-gratia compensation as per rules within 24 hours. All necessary assistance will be extended to the injured persons and their families to ensure proper medical treatment,” Gahlot further said in his letter.

Meanwhile, Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communication, DMRC, while sharing additional details about the incident, said, the incident at Gokulpuri station was reported at 11:10 am. “Train movement was stopped from 11:12 am to 11:23 am on both the up and down lines between Maujpur and Shiv Vihar section of the Pink Line. Train services were restored from 11:23 am through a single line working between Maujpur and Shiv Vihar, a small section comprising 3 stations only,” Dayal said.

Normal services were restored with both up and down line working in this section after barricading the affected platform area from 2:53 pm onwards, he said.

The Gokulpuri station, which was closed during this period, was reopened at 2:53 pm with access allowed from Gate-2 and Gate-1 towards the affected area remaining closed, Dayal added.
