As a part of the security measures in view of the Independence Day celebrations, parking facilities at the metro stations in the national capital will not be available from 6 am on 14 August till 2 pm on August 15.

“Parking facilities will not be available at the Delhi metro stations from 6 am on Tuesday (August 14) till 2 pm on Wednesday (August 15) as part of the security measures undertaken on the occasion of Independence Day,” he said.

While there would be no restrictions on entry and exit at any of the metro stations, some gates at metro stations like – Lal Quila, ITO, Delhi Gate and Jama Masjib Metro stations — will be closed down for security reasons in the morning hours when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the nation from the Red Fort.

The services of metro trains between Indraprastha and Mandi House are likely to be suspended for a while when the PM Modi’s convoy passes through Tilak Marg on 15 August.

While the functioning of the Delhi metro won’t be affected on the Independence Day, the frequency of the trains is expected to be lower than usual. On busy metro stations, when metro usually arrives in two minutes, it may take longer on August 15.

The DMRC has instructed all the parking contractors to use the opportunity for cleaning the parking lots thoroughly in the spirit of “Swachh Bharat”.

It will also depute its officials to inspect the parking lots for strict compliance with its instruction, the official said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Metro has now started a special Freedom Express train that  has photographs of freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh had flagged off the Metro train from Race Course Metro Station on Monday.
