A day after sweeping Uttar Pradesh civic polls, state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi here, officials said.

“Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri @myogiadityanath met PM Shri @narendramodi in Delhi. @CMOfficeUP,” tweeted the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The meeting took place at around 12 noon and as per officials the two leaders discussed the results of the UP civic polls and the way forward for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

The civic elections were crucial for the BJP to gauge the mood of the people, six months after Yogi was appointed the CM while many were seeing it as a litmus test for the firebrand leader.

Nearly eight months after it swept the UP Assembly elections, the ruling BJP continued its winning streak in the civic polls — bagging 14 of the 16 mayoral seats, and also a sizeable chunk of the Nagar Palika and Panchayat posts.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress lost badly and perhaps the biggest blow for the grand old party of India was its loss in Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Rahul Gandhi.

PM Modi had on Friday congratulated the party unit in Uttar Pradesh especially CM Yogi.
