Restrictions were imposed in Srinagar on Monday to thwart any untoward incident during the shutdown that was called by the separatists against the “illegal” detention of certain Hurriyat leaders.

Most educational institutions remained closed and train services were also suspended as a precautionary measure.

Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest, while Syed Alishah Geelani is already under house arrest. However, the two separatists continued tweeting and issuing statements from their houses.

The separatists were also protesting against the raids by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on their supporters in the hunt for terror funding by Pakistan. CRPF and police were deployed in strength throughout the valley as a precautionary measure.
