CPI Rajya Sabha MP P Santosh Kumar on Thursday strongly condemned the reported harassment of nuns from Kerala in the Durg district. Calling it “a blot on democratic values”, he demanded immediate accountability.

During his visit to Narayanpur, Kumar also voiced concern over atrocities on tribals and minorities, alleged corruption in government schemes, and the continuing toll of Maoist violence on local communities. In this context, he demanded strict implementation of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, stressing that vulnerable groups must be shielded from recurring injustice.

He further alleged irregularities in the Aspirational District Fund and flagged corruption in schemes related to coconut production and beekeeping, which, he claimed, deny tribals their rightful benefits.

Speaking on the issue of Maoist insurgency, Kumar said, “Whether in encounters between Maoists and security forces or in extremist attacks, it is the tribals who are killed. They remain the true victims of this prolonged conflict.”

The MP addressed a massive rally in Narayanpur before submitting a memorandum to the Governor through the District Collector. The memorandum sought investigations into corruption allegations, enforcement of protective laws, and immediate action on the Durg incident.
