As the countdown to Dev Deepawali 2025 begins, the holy city of Kashi is preparing to glow in divine brilliance once again. On November 5, the crescent-shaped ghats of Varanasi will transform into a canvas of light, faith, and culture, where millions of diyas will shimmer together with the sounds of ‘shankhnaad’ (sound produced by blowing a conch shell) and ‘damru’ (small, two-headed hand drum, also known as a “power drum,” associated with the Hindu deity Shiva), invoking the blessings of Lord Shiva.
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Varanasi Mahotsav Committee, has made arrangements for more than 10 lakh diyas to illuminate the ghats. Distribution of diyas, oil, and wicks has already begun from Raj Ghat, while the Ganga ghats and their opposite banks have been divided into 20 sectors, each under the supervision of a designated nodal officer to ensure flawless coordination and crowd management.

State Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said on Sunday that this year’s Dev Deepawali will begin with the sound of shankhnaad and damru, symbolising the divine energy of Lord Shiva and the eternal rhythm of Kashi.
The highlight of the celebration will be the ‘Kashi Katha’ 3D projection mapping and laser show, which will narrate the soul-stirring story of the city — from ancient legends to modern milestones.
The 25-minute show will present a captivating journey that includes the auspicious wedding ceremony of Lord Shiva and Parvati, the legend of Vishnu’s Chakra Pushkarini Kund, the teachings of Lord Buddha, and the saintly legacies of Kabir and Tulsidas. It will also showcase the foundation of Banaras Hindu University by Madan Mohan Malaviya, portraying how Kashi continues to blend devotion, knowledge, and progress seamlessly.
“The story of Kashi is the story of timeless faith,” Minister Jaiveer Singh said. “Through light, sound, and art, we want every visitor to feel the city’s spiritual heartbeat and witness the message that every grain of Kashi breathes divinity, and every drop of Banaras overflows with devotion.”
On the evening of Dev Deepawali, the Varanasi sky will come alive with faith and colour as the ‘Kashi Katha’ 3D projection mapping show unfolds in three sessions — 8:15 PM, 9:00 PM, and 9:35 PM — open to all visitors free of cost.
The breathtaking presentation will blend traditional devotion with cutting-edge technology, using 3D visuals, synchronised sound, and a laser show to immerse viewers in the living spirit of Kashi. Joint Director, Tourism, Dinesh Kumar, said the show will also feature an 8-minute laser sequence that will leave spectators spellbound.
Adding to the spectacle, a 10-minute green fireworks display will illuminate the sky above the Ganga Dwar near Kashi Vishwanath Dham at 8:00 PM, combining environmental responsibility with visual grandeur.
Dev Deepawali 2025 is being organised to showcase Kashi’s cultural heritage on a global stage, bringing together art, devotion, and innovation. The evening promises to be an unforgettable experience for pilgrims, travellers, and photographers from across the country who will witness how technology and tradition merge to tell Kashi’s eternal story.
With millions of diyas ready to light up the ghats, the air already vibrating with devotion, and “Kashi Katha” poised to bring the legends of the divine city alive, the countdown to Dev Deepawali 2025 has truly begun — and Kashi is ready to shine brighter than ever before.
