Congress workers, led by the District/City Congress Committee, staged a protest in front of the district headquarters here on Monday in protest against the continuously rising prices of petroleum products in the country.

After the protest, the workers reached the District Magistrate’s Office and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the increased prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas.

A large number of Congress officials, workers, and members of the public participated in the protest, raising slogans against the Central government. The protestors said the ever-rising inflation has broken the back of the common man. Due to the rising prices of petrol and diesel, transportation, food items, agriculture, and daily necessities are becoming increasingly expensive, affecting the middle class, farmers, laborers, students, and poor families the most.

Congress city president Raghavendra Choubey said due to the Central government’s wrong economic policies and anti-people decisions, the people of the country are forced to bear the brunt of inflation. The government is extorting money from the public by continuously increasing taxes on petroleum products, while providing no relief despite fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market. Today, the common citizen of the country is grappling with inflation, unemployment, and economic crisis.

Every essential commodity, from cooking gas to petrol and diesel, is becoming increasingly out of reach. The Congress Party will continue its struggle from the streets to the House of Representatives to amplify the voice of the people, and the movement will continue until the price hikes are reversed. The Congress Party has always stood with the people on public issues and will continue to vigorously fight for the interests of farmers, youth, women, and the poor.
