The Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, over the state’s response to the recent floods. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala accused the government of downplaying the severity of the situation, saying, “Chief Minister Mr Nayab Singh Saini is saying that there is only waterlogging in Haryana. See the shamelessness of Haryana’s BJP government and the Chief Minister.”
According to reports, the flood situation in Haryana has been dire, with over 1,362 villages and 1.73 lakh hectares of crop area affected. The state government has confirmed 35 deaths, and over 6,629 people have been evacuated from affected areas. Additionally, 3,383 people are staying in 41 relief camps set up across the state.

Chief Minister Saini has announced relief measures and compensation for those affected by the floods. He stated, “We have opened the e-compensation portal to reduce the difficulties faced by the citizens due to floods.” So far, 169,738 farmers from 2,897 villages have registered 996,701 acres on the compensation portal. The government has also set up medical camps and provided financial assistance to bereaved families.
However, there’s a discrepancy in the numbers reported by the government and those cited by the Congress. While the government confirms 12 deaths, the Congress claims over 40 lives have been lost. Similarly, the government reports 1.73 lakh hectares of crop area affected, whereas the Congress mentions over 15 lakh acres of crops destroyed.
The Congress party’s criticism of the government’s response has added a political dimension to the crisis. Surjewala’s comments highlight the ongoing debate over the government’s handling of the situation and the need for more effective measures to support those affected by the floods.
