The BJP on Sunday alleged that the Congress party’s Ramlila Maidan rally is not against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) but an attack on the Constitution, aimed at saving “the family” — an apparent reference to the Gandhis.

Sharing a video of Congress workers raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said, “It is clear that this rally is not about SIR. It is actually an attack on the Constitution and meant to ‘save the family’. While attacking the Constitution, a video has now surfaced in which a Congress leader, allegedly at the behest of the party high command, is seen talking about killing Prime Minister Modi and saying that his grave will be dug sooner or later. This makes it clear that their intent is to eliminate PM Modi, as for them, family rule is above constitutional democracy.”

The BJP spokesperson further asserted that the SIR exercise is merely an excuse and instead of introspection after electoral defeat, the Congress leaders are trying to shield themselves from accountability.

“First, they blamed the EVMs, then SIR, and tomorrow they will blame the people, followed by someone else,” he said.

His remarks came ahead of a massive Congress rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against the SIR exercise and the alleged vote chori.

The rally was announced by the Congress party following its defeat in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The Congress had alleged “vote chori” in the elections.

Party workers from across the country have gathered in the national capital to protest against the Election Commission. Some workers were seen staging a symbolic protest against the election rigging.
