Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday tore into the Congress over the Naxal and Maoist terrorism issue in Chhattisgarh and said that the people who show off the Constitution are shedding crocodile tears in the name of social justice. The Prime Minister added that the Congress party has done the people of Chhattisgarh an injustice for decades, for their political gains.
Striking an emotional note with the people of Chhattisgarh, he said, “Today, Chhattisgarh is being freed from Naxal and Maoist terror. What you had to bear for the last 50-55 years is painful. Areas of Chhattisgarh remained deprived of roads, schools and hospitals. There used to be bomb blasts.”

The PM alleged that teachers and doctors used to be killed, adding that those who ruled the nation for decades left the people on their own and enjoyed the luxury of their air-conditioned rooms. The PM further said that he could not leave the people of Chhattisgarh alone to suffer this game of violence.
“I could not leave lakhs of mothers mourning for their children. In 2014, we resolved to make India free of Maoist terror. 11 years ago, 125 districts were infected with Maoism. Today, only three are infected…I guarantee that day is not far away when Chhattisgarh and every corner of the country will be free from Maoist terror,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the rich contribution of tribal communities underscoring the government’s continued efforts to celebrate tribal heritage.
Speaking in Raipur, he said, “Chhattisgarh is home to a large tribal population with a glorious history. Whether it is creating collections of tribal freedom fighters, building museums, or declaring the birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda as Tribal Pride Day, our effort is to ensure that the contributions of tribal society are always celebrated with pride.”
PM Modi earlier in the day inaugurated the new building of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in Raipur, terming it a symbol of the state’s policy, destiny, and future decision-making.
The modern, digitally equipped complex also featured a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, PM Modi recalled the spirit of the Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony, reaffirming the resolve of “From Dev to Desh” and “From Ram to Rashtra.” He said, “In their nanihal Chhattisgarh as well, we must realise their ideals. Our mantra of good governance is,‘Citizen, treat the divine as you would be treated.’ Hence, we must make laws that simplify life and accelerate reform.”
PM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for developmental projects worth over ₹14,260 crore in Chhattisgarh, spanning key sectors including roads, industry, healthcare, and energy.
Addressing a public rally, the Prime Minister reflected on the state’s journey since its formation in 2000. He said, “After 2000, an entire generation has changed in Chhattisgarh, which has not seen the times before 2000. When the state was formed, reaching the villages was difficult. Villages did not have roads. Today, the road network in the villages of Chhattisgarh has now reached 40,000 km.”
Recalling his long association with the state, PM Modi added, “I have also seen the period before the formation of Chhattisgarh. I have also witnessed the journey of the last 25 years. I am fortunate to be part of this moment. We have completed 25 years, and the sun for the next 25 years is about to rise.”
The Prime Minister also participated in the Griha Pravesh ceremony for 3.51 lakh newly constructed houses and released ₹1,200 crore as an instalment to 3 lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), ensuring dignified housing for rural families.
