Referring to a recent statement by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, where he admitted Congress’s failure to meet the political and economic aspirations of the OBC community, Ms Mayawati said this was nothing new.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has lashed out at the Congress party, accusing it of being historically insincere and untrustworthy regarding the rights and welfare of the Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST).
Referring to a recent statement by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, where he admitted Congress’s failure to meet the political and economic aspirations of the OBC community, Ms Mayawati said this was nothing new.

“It only reflects the party’s long-standing habit of saying one thing and doing another — a form of selfish, double-faced politics,” she said in a press statement here on Saturday.

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister recalled that it was precisely this neglect and exploitation by Congress that led to the formation of the BSP, a party born out of the self-respect and desire for empowerment among SC, ST, and OBC communities.
She criticized the Congress for its failure to honor Dr BR Ambedkar with the Bharat Ratna during its tenure and for denying reservation benefits to OBCs for decades after Independence. “Even today, there’s a massive backlog in government jobs reserved for these communities,” she noted.
Ms Mayawati further alleged that all “casteist” parties, including the BJP-led NDA, have consistently undermined reservation policies and failed to uplift these marginalized groups. “Whether it’s Congress, BJP, or others, their actions have rendered reservations ineffective and their policies oppressive,” she said.
Highlighting the record of her party, she said that under four BSP-led governments in UP, there was guaranteed protection, dignity, and welfare for the Bahujan Samaj, including the poor and oppressed from all communities.
“The real welfare of SCs, STs, and OBCs lies only with the BSP,” she asserted, urging these communities not to be misled by the promises of parties like Congress or Samajwadi Party. “Only BSP provides a strong and reliable guarantee for their peace, dignity, and prosperity,” she said.
