‘Congress hitting new low, people of India will answer’: Amit Shah on Kharge’s ‘terrorist’ remark on PM Modi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a close confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed the Congress party over its chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s “terrorist” remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a social media post on X, Shah said that the Congress party has broken its own record in “lowering the standard of public discourse.”

Launching a scathing attack on Kharge, Shah said that the Congress chief has “breached every standard of public conduct” and accused him of bringing “shame to the nation” by calling the Prime Minister of India a terrorist.

“This insult to the foremost leader of the nation is an insult to the millions of people who love and support Modi Ji,” Shah said.

He added, “Calling a leader like Modi Ji a terrorist, who has completely curbed terrorism in the last 12 years is highly condemnable.”

The home minister further stated that everytime Congress “abuses” Modi, people if India answer the party. asserted that people of India will respond. “This time too, the people will respond,” he added.

What Kharge had said on Modi?

Addressing a press conference in Chennai, Kharge said, “How these AIADMK people, who themselves put the photo of Annadurai, how can they join Modi? He is a terrorist.”

When the Congress chief was asked to put his statement in context, he clarified, “He (PM Modi) is terrorising people and political parties. I never said he is a terrorist.”

“What I mean, I want to clarify, is that Modi always threatens. The institutions like ED, I-T and CBI are in his hands. He wants to take delimitation also into his hands. Therefore I said , in that context, he is terrorising people and political parties. I never said he is a terrorist,” Kharge added.

Taking strong exception to the Congress leader’s shocking remarks on PM Modi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal slammed the Congress and DMK alliance for insulting the democratically elected PM of India.

Goyal also demanded an apology from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Seeing his remarks snowballing into a major controversy ahead of polling in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Kharge issued a clarification, saying he meant the Prime Minister was “trying to silence people” and didn’t intend to call him a terrorist literally.

“I did not speak against the PM. The PM is terrorising politicians, candidates and regarding this, I said that tax terrorism is happening, ED is conducting raids, Income Tax Dept is conducting raids, and CBI is conducting raids. This terrorism is being facilitated by the PM. I did not call him a terrorist; he is facilitating terrorism to scare people. He is trying to silence people through raids and attempting to defeat them in elections. This is what I said in Chennai,” Kharge told reporters in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi.
