Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon today launched a scathing attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of systematically betraying its own allies and indulging in opportunistic politics ahead of the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections scheduled later this year in Chandigarh.
Reacting to Ritu Chhabra, wife of late Pradeep Chhabra, who was in charge of AAP, joining the Congress party along with her supporters and other leaders such as Harjinder Singh Bawa, Kuldeep Singh Kukki, Prem Lata and Yankee Kalia, Tandon said, “Congress does not believe in alliance dharma. It believes in finishing its allies politically. Congress behaves like a butcher when it comes to its partners.”

He said this latest episode in Chandigarh is yet another example of Congress weakening its own ally instead of strengthening democratic cooperation.

Tandon alleged that the entire operation in Chandigarh is being orchestrated by local MP Manish Tewari, whom he accused of “stabbing his own ally in the back for political gains.”
“Instead of respecting the spirit of alliance, Manish Tewari is actively engineering defections. This exposes the true character of Congress. They cannot grow politically on their own strength; so they survive by destroying their partners,” he said.
Drawing parallels with other states, Tandon said this is not an isolated incident but a consistent pattern across the country.
“Congress has done the same thing with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar and with Shiv Sena-Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra. Congress first forms alliances and then works to finish its partners,” he said.
He further added that Congress not only harms its allies but also pushes its own workers into political irrelevance.
“Congress has a history of sinking its own leaders and workers. Their internal politics is driven by selfish motives and power struggles. Today’s developments in Chandigarh clearly show that Congress is desperate and insecure,” Tandon said.
Tandon asserted that the people of Chandigarh are politically aware and will reject such “opportunistic and dishonest politics.” “The people of Chandigarh want stability, honesty and development; not betrayal, manipulation and political conspiracy. Congress stands exposed once again,” he added.
