As Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to kickstart his campaigning for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, a controversy has erupted over the alleged demolition of a temporary helipad where the Congress leader’s chopper was supposed to land.
The Congress party has accused the ruling TMC of demolishing the temporary helipad built in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal’s Raiganj.

Reacting to the alleged demolition of the helipad, local Congress leader Deepa Dasmunsi slammed the TMC over the alleged demolition, accusing the ruling party in Bengal of resorting to “hateful politics”.
“Everyone has the right to hold election meetings. Trinamool has lost the minimum sense of courtesy. Meetings are organised in stadiums according to specific rules. But still, attempts were made to spoil Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with hateful politics,” Dasmunsi said on Facebook.
Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also reacted sharply to the incident and said that Rahul Gandhi will see with his own eyes how the Mamata Banerjee-led party is running West Bengal.
Following the incident, Congress District General Secretary Tushar Guha rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and carry out repair works.
Guha stated that Rahul Gandhi’s meeting was finalised long ago but at the last moment TMC has resorted to this “conspiracy”.
“Rahul Gandhi’s election meeting was finalised long ago. Preparations for organising the meeting were started with the permission of the Raiganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate. But suddenly today it is time to demolish the stadium’s helipad. This is a conspiracy by the Trinamool Congress,” Guha alleged.
However, Trinamool Congress leader Arindam Sarkar, former vice chairman of Raiganj Municipality, has rejected the Congress party’s allegations. “Trinamool has not reached such a situation that the Congress’ campaigning has to be stopped,” the TMC leader said.
Gandhi later reached Raiganj and addressed a rally in support of Congress candidate Mohit Sengupta from Raiganj at Raiganj Stadium.
