The Congress on Thursday strongly criticized the statement made by Bihar’s Additional Director General of Police (ADG) on “farmers committing murders when they are out of work”.
Questioning the logic of the statement, party spokesperson Pawan Khera called it “absurd and shameful”. He asked If the ADG himself would resort to violence on the streets after retirement due to having no work. He emphasized that if the police chief holds such views, then the people of Bihar are in a precarious situation.

Expressing concern about the law and order situation in Bihar under the Nitish Kumar-led government, Khera said, “Residents of Bihar feel unsafe due to the deteriorating situation and are looking towards the Congress for change, especially with the upcoming Assembly elections.
The ADG allegedly said that in April and May, farmers have no work so they commit murders.
“Recently, a lot of murders have happened in the whole of Bihar. Most murders happen in the months of April, May and June. This continues until the rains come, as most farmers do not have work. After the rains, people in the farming community get busy and the incidents reduce… So we have formed a new cell this month. The work of that cell will be to create a database of all the former shooters, contract killers and keep an eye on them,” he said at a press conference.
