The murder triggered massive public and political outrage, with the Opposition RJD and Congress slamming the BJP-Nitish Kumar government over the alleged law and order breakdown in the state.
Purnea MP and a staunch critic of Nitish Kumar and the BJP, Pappu Yadav, had demanded President’s rule in the state, claiming no one is safe in Bihar.
This incident came close on the heels of several high-profile murders over the last few weeks, including the killing of BJP leader and prominent businessman Gopal Khemka in the state capital.
The Khemka murder was followed by the killing of another BJP leader, Surendra Kewat; prominent businessman Vikram Jha; and sand dealer Ramakant Yadav.
The back-to-back murders have sparked severe criticism of the BJP-Nitish Kumar government in the state, where assembly elections are due in the next couple of months.
