Thousands of Bihar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) aspirants staged a massive protest in Patna on Monday demanding cancellation of the mains examination conducted on May 27 alleging paper-leaks as well as large-scale irregularities and malpractice.

The students marched from Patna College to JP Golumber, where security forces deployed barricades and water cannons to disperse the crowd.

According to the candidates, complaints regarding the alleged paper leak had been submitted to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), and the Director General of Police (DGP). However, they claimed that no concrete action had been taken so far on their demand for cancellation of the examination.

Student leaders spearheading the agitation said their peaceful protest would continue until the government and the concerned commission order a high-level inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the SI mains examination and cancel the disputed test. They alleged serious discrepancies in both the question papers and the evaluation process and demanded a fair and impartial investigation.

Meanwhile, the police remained on high alert in view of the protest march. Anticipating a large gathering and possible unrest, the administration erected strong barricades near JP Golambar and deployed a heavy police presence, including baton-carrying personnel. Anti-riot vehicles and water cannons were also stationed at the site to deal with any untoward situation.
