Centre discriminated against Punjab, flood relief package a joke: CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged delay in the disbursement of finacial aid to the flood-ravaged state, calling the Rs 1600 crore flood relief package announced by the PM a “joke”.

“If there is a crisis in Afghanistan, financial help is sent to the country instantly. Here, he visited after so many days and announced a package of Rs 1600 crores. But we have not received a penny yet. What is the enmity with Punjab?” Mann said at a press conference in Chandigarh.

CM Mann further accused the BJP-led central government of discriminating against Punjab.

“Punjab is considered India’s Food Bowl, which makes a significant contribution to filling the country’s stomach. But the BJP-led central government discriminated against Punjab in a delicate situation like floods and made a joke in the name of a relief package,” he remarked.

Referring to the recent India-Pakistan match controversy, the Punjab CM stated that the ruling party is maintaining ties with Pakistan for its own benefit.

“By adopting double standards in its relations with Pakistan, the BJP is hurting the faith and sentiments of the people,” he said.

Informing about the relief measures being carried out in the state, CM Mann said that the cleanup work has begun in the flood-affected villages.

“We will make the fields cultivable well before the upcoming crop season. In addition, medical camps are being set up in every village, and the vaccination of animals has also started,” he added.
