The Madhya Pradesh state Assembly on Monday passed a censure motion against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), after the ruling BJP MLAs strongly condemned the news media’s recent documentary that casts aspersions on the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP MLA Shailendra Jain brought a Private Member’s Resolution in the Assembly demanding the censure against the BBC. State Legislative Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra seconded the bill.

It was subsequently approved by a voice vote and the house passed the censure motion against the BBC for its two-part documentary titled, ‘India – The Modi Question’, portraying a negative image of PM Modi in context of the Gujarat riots post the Godhra train burning incident of 2002, when Modi was the CM of that state.

After the censure motion was passed, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan told media persons that the BBC’s deliberate attempt to defame the PM and India should be severely condemned. Chouhan averred that strict action must be taken against the BBC.

The MP Assembly’s budget session resumed today after the holi and rangpanchami break. It is scheduled to run till 27 March.
