Six more people, including two directors of a private coaching centre from Jharkhand, were on Saturday apprehended in connection with the CBSE question paper leaks, police said.

Since Friday, 12 people, including Class 10 and 11 students, have been apprehended in the CBSE leak case from Jharkhand’s Chatra district, police said.

The examination board came under criticism after its Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers were leaked earlier this week.

On Friday, the police had detained six Class 10 students in the case.

The police said that among those apprehended today, four are students of different schools in the district and two directors of a private coaching centre in Jharkhand.

A Class 11 student was detained from the Navodaya Vidyalala campus. He had hid chits containing answers of a leaked question paper in the school’s bathroom, police said.

Two students are from Patna, they said. The police said that the directors have been put under arrest.

Student protest

Students from across the national capital continued their protest outside CBSE headquarters here, a day after the board announced fresh dates for the re-examination of Class 10 and Class 12 exams.

The students gathered outside the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) headquarters in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar early morning leading to traffic snarls in and around the neighbourhood.

Some of the protesters tried climbing over the police barricades outside the office in Preet Vihar but were rebuffed.

The affected students and their parents say the leakage of maths and economics question papers for Class 10 and 12 respectively has hit them badly.

Many who had been looking forward to holidays or preparing for entrance examinations would now have to cancel their plans until the tests are held again.

Amid nationwide protests over the leak, the government on Friday said re-examination will be held for Class 12 economics paper throughout the country on April 25 while fresh test for Class 10 maths paper will be held only in Delhi, NCR and Haryana, “if at all”, in July.

Admitting that “some wrong” has happened, Anil Swarup, Secretary, School Education, in the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, said the CBSE Class 10 mathematics question paper was leaked only in Delhi and Haryana as there was no evidence that it was a pan-India affair.

He said since the Class 12 economics paper was leaked across the country, its fresh test will be held on April 25. But there will be no fresh exam outside of India because there was no leak.

Swarup said the decision to conduct fresh exams won’t affect the date of publication of the results which usually happens in May end.
