Gurkeerat Kaur hails from a family which has been solid supporters of the Congress party, as Buta Singh was the Union Home Minister when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister.

Former Union Home Minister Buta Singh’s daughter Gurkeerat Kaur and former municipal councillor Ramesh Pandit and former Union Home Minister Buta Singh, on Wednesday joined the Congress party in the presence of a large number of their supporters at the DPCC office here.

Ramesh Pandit, who began his political career with the National Students Union of India and had been associated with the Congress for nearly 38 years. It was homecoming for him as he had left the party to contest as an independent candidate in the last MCD elections.

Gurkeerat Kaur and Pandit were welcomed into the Congress party by former Delhi minister AK. Walia and senior leader Chattar Singh. Dr Walia said, ”the return of Ramesh Pandit and the joining of Gurkeerat Kaur, who is a lawyer, along with their supporters, will strengthen the Congress.”

Her brother Arvinder Singh Lovely was a Congress MLA. He switched over to the BJP but later returned to his parent party. Both Buta Singh and Arvinder Singh Lovely were present on the occasion.
