BSP to mark Mayawati’s 70th birthday tomorrow as ‘Jankalyankari Diwas’ across UP, eyes 2027 polls

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will celebrate party chief Mayawati’s 70th birthday on January 15 as “Jankalyankari Diwas” across all districts of Uttar Pradesh, with instructions to party leaders and workers to participate in large numbers.

The celebrations will be used to mobilise the party cadre ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with a renewed call to form a majority BSP government and make Mayawati chief minister for a fifth term.

BSP state unit president Vishwanath Pal said district-level meetings have been organised to prepare for the celebrations.

Senior leaders have reviewed arrangements and issued necessary guidelines to office-bearers. Apart from party offices, events will be held at prominent public locations in each district to ensure maximum participation and to demonstrate the party’s organisational strength from booth to district level.

Following the October 9 rally marking the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, party workers are said to be highly motivated. The leadership aims to maintain this momentum through the statewide birthday programme.

During the events, senior leaders will brief workers on election preparations and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Pal said Mayawati has directed party office-bearers to ensure that the names of all eligible voters are included in the voter lists and to help citizens complete the required forms.

The BSP has also launched a statewide donation drive, with supporters contributing to the party fund on Mayawati’s birthday. In addition, the party plans to highlight the development and welfare schemes implemented during its four terms in power by putting up hoardings and banners at district headquarters.

Earlier, Mayawati’s birthdays were marked by large-scale celebrations when the BSP was in power, serving as a show of strength for both supporters and political rivals. However, after the party lost power, the celebrations were largely confined to the BSP state office in Lucknow.
