He also said that Uttar Pradesh is now setting new records in industry, law, and infrastructure and praised the work of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, without taking his name.
Rajnath Singh was speaking at a program organized at the National PG College to unveil the statue of firmer chief minister Chandrabhanu Gupta here on Sunday.
The defence minister said, “Industries in UP are flourishing. Projects like Expressway, Metro, Medical College are creating a new picture. Uttar Pradesh’s contribution in security system has become the most special in the country.”
He said now no one question about law and order in UP.
Recalling the freedom fighter and former chief minister Chandrabhanu Gupta, Rajnath Singh described politics as a medium of service and also shared an old memoir. “Chandrabhanu Gupta believed that the purpose of governance is service, not power. He was a public leader who came out of the furnace of the freedom struggle, who raised his voice against the British rule. There may be differences in politics, but there should be no discrimination, this education comes from Chandrabhanu,” he said.
Narrating an election anecdote, the defence minister said, “When I was contesting the first election from Mirzapur, Chandrabhanu came to my meeting. As soon as the meeting was over, he grabbed my hand and sat in the car and gave Rs 5,000 . When I returned the money, he was shocked. That amount was very big for me at that time.”
The statue was unveiled on the occasion of Chandrabhanu Gupta’s 124th birth anniversary. Mr Singh then issued a memorial postage stamp in the name of former CM Chandrabhanu Gupta.
Lok Sabha member from Allahabad Ujjwal Raman Singh and UP deputy CM Brajesh Pathak were also present on the occassion.
