The BJP found a new point to take a jibe at Congress president Rahul Gandhi – his jacket. It started after pictures of Rahul Gandhi attending a rock concert in Meghalaya went viral.

In the pictures the Gandhi scion is seen wearing a black puffer jacket and jeans while interacting with the audiences, mostly young men and women, at the concert in Shillong on 30 January.

The BJP found in the pictures a point to slam the Congress.

Sharing the image on Twitter, the BJP in Meghalaya raised the “soot-boot ki sarkar” jibe.

BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s jacket is worth $995 (Rs 63,000 approximately). They shared a picture of a Burberry jacket alongside the picture of Rahul Gandhi at the concert.

“So soot(pun intended!)-boot ki sarkar with ‘black’ money fleeced from Meghalayan State exchequer by rampant corruption? Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt in Meghalaya! Your indifference mocks us!” wrote BJP in Meghalaya.

In 2015, Rahul Gandhi had mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime as a “suit-boot ki sarkar” referring to a monogrammed suit worn by the PM during former US President Barack Obama’s visit. That suit was later sold at an auction for over Rs 4 crore.

Following the BJP’s tweet, many took to social media to mock Rahul’s jacket:

Congress leader Renuka Chaudhary scoffed at BJP’s allegations. She claimed that she can show the same jacket for Rs 700.

Meghalaya heads to polls on 27 February. Both the BJP and the Congress are in an aggressive poll mood.
