A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation on Tuesday met Governor Santosh Gangwar at Raj Bhavan and sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) excise constable examination.

The nine-member delegation, led by state BJP president Aditya Sahu and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, submitted a memorandum alleging that the April 12 examination was marred by organised malpractice and a suspected question paper leak.

Citing developments linked to the case, the BJP claimed that over 150 persons were detained from a location in Tamar, where candidates were allegedly being coached with answers ahead of the examination. The party also referred to the reported seizure of electronic devices, suspected question papers, and vehicles. These claims, however, could not be independently verified.

The examination was conducted across eight districts at 370 centres for 583 posts, with around 1.48 lakh candidates appearing.

The BJP further alleged that candidates were asked to deposit their mobile phones and admit cards, and that financial transactions were involved in facilitating unfair means.

The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission has denied any paper leak in the examination.

Questioning the commission’s position, the BJP demanded a comprehensive and independent investigation into the matter. It also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in previous examinations conducted by JSSC and the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).

In its memorandum, the party called for a CBI probe, an investigation into possible links between exam authorities and organised cheating networks, and a wider crackdown on solver gangs operating across states. It also sought systemic reforms to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The delegation urged the Governor to ensure an impartial probe to establish the facts and restore confidence among candidates.
