The Congress on Saturday accused the BJP workers of tearing off banners and posters of the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam’s Lakhimpur and said the ruling dispensation is ‘scared’ of the yatra.

Notably, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra-led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, which kicked off from Manipur’s Imphal on January 14, is currently in Assam, after it traversed though Nagaland.

Attacking the BJP, the Congress chief said, “In the last 10 years, BJP has attempted to trample and demolish every right and justice guaranteed by the Constitution to the people of India. It wants to subjugate their voices, thereby hijacking democracy.”

“Congress party will not be cowed down by this tactic of attack and intimidation employed by the BJP government in Assam, which is responsible for this. The Congress shall take appropriate legal action against these BJP stooges. Our fight and Rahul Gandhi’s commitment for people’s NYAY is unstoppable,” he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Congress general secretary in-charge of organization KC Venugopal said the ruling dispensation is “scared” of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Meanwhile, Congress’ national treasurer Ajay Maken while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, informed that an FIR was lodged over the alleged incident in Assam and added that the BJPis scared of the support being received by Gandhi on the ongoing yatra.

“Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is getting full cooperation and public support, seeing which BJP and its leaders are nervous. The manner in which the posters were torned  in Assam’s Lakhimpur shows that the BJP is extremely nervous,” he said.

He further said, “ It has never happened earlier when Rahul ji moved from South to North in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. It is the duty of the ruling party of the state to ensure that there is no law and order  problem.”
