Muslim parties in Ayodhya dispute case expressed shock over the reports that the Sunni Waqf Board was withdrawing their claim over the disputed land, through a statement on Friday.

A couple of days back, on October 16, a five-judge bench had concluded the 40-day marathon hearing on the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. The mediation panel had also submitted its report to the court on same day.

Advocate Eijaz Maqbool, who represented key Muslim litigant M Siddiq in the Ayodhya land dispute, said all Muslim parties, except the Sunni Waqf Board, have rejected settlement as the main Hindu parties to the dispute were not part of the mediation process and its purported settlement.

The apex court had formed a three-member mediation panel headed by Justice FMI Kalifulla to provide settlement on the dispute.

Sunni Waqf Board, Nirvani Akhada, Nirmohi Akhada, Ram Janmabhoomi Punruddhar Samiti and some other Hindu parties are in favour of settling the contentious land dispute, sources told PTI.
