West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose Tuesday, warned of strict action if the culprits involved in the alleged attack on a BJP delegation in Jalpaiguri are not arrested within 24 hours.
Speaking to reporters, Bose termed the attack on the elected representatives of the BJP as “dastardly, shocking and benumbing.”

“This was something which never should have happened in a democracy…,” the Governor said, adding, “This cannot be allowed to continue in an enlightened state like Bengal.”
Accusing the West Bengal Police of “not doing their duty”, the Bengal Governor said it was shocking that the attack happened in front of the police personnel.
“Police are supposed to uphold the Constitution of India and the rule of law. But they are conniving and not doing their duty,” he stated.
Governor Bose vowed strict action against the culprits, saying, ”This is a very sad state of affairs”.
“Stern action will be taken against the culprit. I will see that in 24 hours, the culprits are apprehended. Otherwise, serious action will be taken,” he added.
His remarks came a day after BJP MP Khagen Murmu, along with other party leaders, was attacked in Nagrakata in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Monday.
Murmu suffered severe head injuries in the attack and was hospitalised. The BJP delegation was visiting the flood and landslide-hit areas.
Meamwhile, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs to forward a ‘Factual Note’ in the matter from the State Government of West Bengal within three days.
