The team discovered the two grenades concealed beneath a large Pipal tree, preventing what authorities suspect was a planned act of violence in the region.
Assam Director General of Police, GP Singh, confirmed the seizure and praised the successful operation, stating on X, “Plan of violence stymied in Upper Assam. Two grenades recovered in Dibrugarh.”
This operation underscores ongoing security concerns in Assam, despite the diminishing activity of major insurgent groups like the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) and factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
While insurgent violence has reduced in scale, recent activities indicate that militant elements remain operational, particularly in Upper Assam and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Legal procedures related to the seizure are currently underway, and further investigations are expected to reveal more about the intended target of the thwarted attack.
