Semiconductor chips are driving innovation across technology, automotive, telecom, healthcare, and power industries, a new report said on Wednesday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his gratitude to industrialist Ratan Tata during a meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday, where they discussed Tata Group’s upcoming Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor plant in the state.
Sarma hailed the Tata semiconductor facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad as a groundbreaking investment that would elevate Assam to the global semiconductor map and revolutionize east India’s economic landscape.
In a statement following the meeting with Ratan Tata and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, Sarma conveyed the heartfelt appreciation of the people of Assam for their unwavering confidence in the state. He anticipated the commencement of chip production by 2025.

Moreover, Sarma discussed plans for a Skill Development Centre to be established within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad.
This center aims to empower North-Eastern youths by offering courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, thereby enhancing their employment prospects at the Jagiroad unit.
Highlighting the ongoing training of 1,500 Assamese youths, particularly women, at Tata facilities in Bangalore, Sarma emphasized their readiness for leadership roles once the semiconductor facility becomes operational in 2025.
