Taking exception to projecting the DMK government as anti-Hindu by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday asked if the BJP veteran is ‘Amit Shah or Slander Shah’? He said the “baseless” charges and the canards the BJP leader levelled against his party are unbecoming of the office he holds.

“During the recent visit, he had spoken as though Tamil Nadu is working to put an end to Hindu religious beliefs and the right to worship. I register my strongest condemnation for this. It seems that he is unaware of what is happening in Tamil Nadu. The Union home minister making such unfounded charges that Hindus are stripped of their rights is highly unbecoming of the office that he holds,” Stalin fumed at the inauguration of the completed developmental works and laying the foundation for new ones in the Dindigul district.

“The fact remains that only the intention and habitual thinking of those bent upon creating trouble and division has been proved futile. It will not happen anymore. We will not allow that. It will never happen till Stalin is there. To be frank, by speaking like this here their intention is to carry out a hate campaign in the northern states,” he charged.

Countering Shah’s charges, he said, “In the last four years, our government carried out consecration, in the language known to him ‘kumbabishekam’, to over 4,000 temple. Can BJP-ruled states claim to have accomplished such a feat? Not at all. Further, we have recovered 7,655 acres of property worth Rs 7,071crore worth properties of 997 temples which were under encroachment. I am launching works pertained to the HR&CE Department for every two days in a week at the Secretariat. No wonder, this Dravidian Model Government is desired by devotees and seers alike. We are treating each religion equally, respecting their beliefs and protecting their rights.”

“Besides the slander, he had done us something good, making our task easier by asking whether Tamil Nadu needs a Modi government or not. It is a question we have to ask! For this, I thank him. The question before the 2026 election is whether Tamil Nadu has to be ruled by us or someone from far removed Delhi? It is a challenge held out to the self respect of the Tamils,” he said, adding “It is not necessary to make the people understand that voting for the AIADMK alliance will result in the BJP rule. And, Amit Shah himself had made a confessional statement,” the chief minister said.

Accusing the Modi government of not doing anything for Tamil Nadu in the last 11 years, he asked why can’t the BJP understand why the people of Tamil Nadu have handed them defeat successively in 2019, 2021 and 2024. “When you do not change your discriminatory attitude towards Tamil Nadu, how do you expect the people of the state to change their decision? Having run a proxy government after the demise of Jayalalithaa, now you are open about BJP rule. But, the people are prepared to believe you,” he said, asserting that Dravidian Model 2.0 is a certainty.
