Following revelations that drivers in the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department were drawing salaries without operating buses, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Yogi Adityanath government.

He said that instead of symbolically running a “bulldozer” on buses, the Chief Minister should act against the minister’s corrupt practices.

Taking to social media, Akhilesh Yadav remarked that everyone knows the bulldozer will not be used effectively because a significant portion of the alleged scam flows into the “main donation box.”

Therefore, he said, the Chief Minister’s “leniency” toward the minister will remain directly proportional to the income received.

He further alleged that while the public struggles with travel during the summer holidays, the BJP and its allies are busy “selling off” the Transport Department. According to him, this is why Uttar Pradesh’s development engine has come to a complete standstill, stuck on corruption-ridden roads.

Akhilesh Yadav also said that disruptions in traffic and transportation directly affect the economy. He accused the BJP of focusing not on building a trillion-dollar economy, but on creating its own “trillion-dollar system.”

He added that the party has never prioritized, and will never prioritize, the welfare of common people.

He concluded by saying that if the BJP is voted out, the system will start functioning again, adding that “better days are about to come.”

It may be noted that a major case of alleged corruption has surfaced in the Transport Department.

According to available information, 1,671 drivers were found drawing salaries without driving buses, while nearly 50 percent of drivers recorded zero kilometres of operation. As of now, there has been no official response from the government or the Transport Department on the matter.
