Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday strongly criticized the Uttar Pradesh police over custodial deaths, questioning the BJP’s double standards on human rights.
“Now that people from the ruling party are being affected, it seems they have finally understood the pain of those who were killed in such incidents over the years,” Yadav said in a post shared on his WhatsApp channel.
He emphasized that every deceased person, regardless of any political affiliation,is a citizen and a human being, deserving of dignity and justice.

“Every dead person is a citizen of the country and a human being, before being a member of any party. Such deaths should be strongly condemned, and those who promote such acts should be held accountable,” Yadav stated. He also questioned the accountability of the UP police, asking who was behind the targeting of BJP’s own allies and affiliates.
Yadav’s remarks come at a time of growing outrage over custodial deaths in Uttar Pradesh , with recent incidents involving members of the ruling party sparking widespread criticism.
The SP chief’s comments highlight the need for greater police accountability and transparency in handling such cases.
Yadav’s criticism underscores the growing tensions between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, with the opposition party demanding greater accountability from the state government over law and order issues. The issue is likely to be a significant point of contention in the run-up to future elections.
