Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday appealed to journalists to uphold the principles of true and honest journalism, highlighting issues that are being overlooked despite being in plain sight. In a message on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav praised journalists who bring forth ground-level truths and inside stories, urging them to fearlessly report on issues affecting the common people.
“Journalists who are known for their ground-level understanding and bring forth inside stories deserve appreciation. They should not only highlight issues beneath the surface but also speak truth to power on issues happening in broad daylight,” Yadav said.

Yadav specifically mentioned several issues that need attention, including: Fake encounters and injustices perpetrated by the police; Illegal land grabs and encroachments; Corruption and commission demands in government projects; Custodial deaths and police brutality; Communal speeches and hate crimes; and Electoral malpractices and vote buying.
He contrasted these with journalists who prioritise truth and public interest, criticising those who compromise their values for personal gain. Yadav’s message reflects the growing concern over press freedom and the need for journalists to hold those in power accountable.
