All India Muslim Personal Law Board ( AIMPLB) executive member and Chairman of the Islamic Center of India, Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali, has urged the Centre to extend the deadline for registration waqf properties on the “Umeed Portal” by two years from the current cut-off date of December 5, 2025.

Pointing out “Uttar Pradesh alone has around 1.5 lakh Waqfs, located in villages and remote areas”, making immediate registration a daunting task, he said, “As large number of these (waqf properties) are located in villages and rural areas, completing this important task immediately is not only very difficult but nearly impossible.”
He further said there are over 1.25 lakh waqf properties under Sunni Central Waqf Board in UP alone and out of these only 250 have been able to register themselves so far in the Umeed Portal.
A workshop was organised at the Islamic Center of India, Eidgah, Lucknow, where experts provided practical training to Mutawallis on how to navigate and use the portal effectively. Maulana Farangi Mahali said that the “Umeed Portal” contains extensive information on Waqf properties, and proper training is essential to ensure compliance
