All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) on Tuesday handed a cheque of Rs 25 lakhs to All India Congress Committee (AICC) treasurer Ahmad Patel as contribution to the flood relief work in Kerala.

The amount was collected by AIMC teams across the country.

AIMC president Sushmita Dev met Patel on 4 September to submit the cheque.

In a statement issued today, Dev said that the unprecedented floods in Kerala “tell the tale of human misery that is devastating”.

“The destruction around has left everyone Including our sisters and children traumatised,” she said adding that Congress president Rahul Gandhi had made an appeal to the party workers to help in every possible way including making donations to ‘Rajiv Gandhi National Relief And Welfare Trust’.

She said that the Kerala State Mahila Congress president promised a contribution of Rs 5 lakhs. Drafts and cheques of approximately Rs 20 lakhs collected by state presidents and national office bearers of AIMC were handed over to Patel.

“Apart from that, relief materials in the form of food and sanitary napkins for women have been dispatched from various States by Mahila Congress workers,” she said.
