After first assembly session, Kerala BJP chief complains of ‘strange’ political culture

Following his first session in the state Legislative Assembly, Kerala BJP President and Nemom MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar criticized Kerala’s political culture as “strange” and “completely irresponsible” following his first session in the state Legislative Assembly.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Chandrasekhar, a former Union Minister who spent 18 years in Parliament before entering the Kerala Assembly on June 1, 2026, sarcastically remarked that despite his long parliamentary tenure, he realized he “had seen nothing” until witnessing Kerala’s political discourse.

“I thought I had seen almost everything in politics and parliamentary functioning during my 18 years in Parliament. But now I realise I had seen nothing,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar remarked sarcastically.

He highlighted the need for a shift towards a growth-oriented agenda, opposing the current focus on political maneuvering.

The BJP leader said political rivals are creating unnecessary rows instead of addressing pressing public concerns. “The recent assembly session was remarkable for many reasons. But what surprised me the most was the political culture here, which was completely disconnected from society’s real concerns and isolated from the people. The politics of some people are quite strange. This is a strange kind of politics that has no connection with the real problems faced by the people,” he added.

Regarding the state’s economic white paper debate, he criticized CPM leaders for opposing it, claiming that political rivals focus too much on blaming the BJP’s election victories instead of tackling actual public issues.

He alleged that the disastrous policies of both the Congress and the CPM are directly responsible for collapsing Kerala’s economy
He said that while citizens face skyrocketing commodity prices, stagnant investments, and high unemployment, current political discussions completely ignore these critical daily issues.

Characterizing the scenario as deeply distressing and painful, Chandrasekhar emphasized that the BJP’s primary goal is to overhaul the state’s political culture.
“Our goal is to replace petty political bickering and artificial controversy with results-oriented governance,” he said.
