For the first time after 2002, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the Bay of Bengal
in the month of February which would revive intense rainfall activity in Cauvery Delta and Southern districts on February 21 and 22, prompting the Met office to issue an Yellow Alert for these two days.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked around February 18.
In an update on Monday, Met office said dry weather prevailed over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.

No large change in minimum temperature over TamilNadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area during the past 24 hrs.
Minimum temperatures were above normal by 2 deg C at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and near normal over the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
It said under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over east Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining central parts of South Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the same region at 0830 hrs today.
The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 5.8 km above mean sea level.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean around February 18.
The forecast warning for the next seven days is dry weather is likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area till February 18.
On February 19, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places over South Coastal Tamil Nadu, Delta districts and Karaikal area, while dry weather is likely to prevail over rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area for the next three days till February 22. Issuing a heavy rainfall warning, the Met office said heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over the delta districts of Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and the southern Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal on February 21 where an Yellow Alert was issued as the system moves closer to these areas.
On February 22, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts–Yellow Alert issued.
Thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Southern districts of Tamil Nadu, and over Karaikal area for two days on February 21 and 22.
Mist/Haze is likely to prevail at isolated pockets over North Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, districts during early morning hours for the next two days.
The forecast for Chennai city and itsneighbourhood is the sky conditions would be partly cloudy and dry weather is likely to prevail, with no traces of rain.
