The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Jharkhand unit on Friday formally handed over its organisational reins to Aditya Sahu, who assumed charge as the party’s new state president on the occasion of Vasant Panchami.

The ceremony was held at the BJP state headquarters here after puja and havan rituals. Outgoing state president and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi formally installed Sahu in office, welcoming him with a bouquet and sweets.

Addressing the gathering after taking charge, Sahu expressed gratitude to the central and state leadership for placing trust in him. Describing Jharkhand as fertile ground for the BJP, he said the party’s real strength lay in its booth-level workers and asserted that the organisation would be strengthened from the grassroots to the state level.

Referring to the creation of Jharkhand, Sahu said the state was the result of the BJP’s long struggle and vision. He recalled former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying the task of building a well-governed Jharkhand in line with that vision was still incomplete.

Calling upon party workers to take a pledge on Vasant Panchami, he said the BJP would continue its struggle to restore good governance and work towards forming a strong double-engine government in the state.

Sahu also paid tribute to freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose, noting his association with Jharkhand and his role in raising resistance against British rule from the region.

Babulal Marandi described Sahu as an experienced grassroots organiser with a strong connect to Jharkhand, and said the party would gain further strength under his leadership.

MP Deepak Prakash said the party was pleased that a grassroots worker had been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the state unit and expressed confidence that organisational expansion would follow.

Party sources indicated that the new state BJP team is likely to be constituted soon. The large turnout at the state headquarters was seen as a sign of renewed organisational momentum.
